Things I Didn’t Like 10 Years Ago But Like Now #006: Summer Jobs

So I worked as a cashier/bagger at Price Chopper one summer and I used to love getting to round up carts and bring them back into the store. This was solely because I would get the carts moving real fast and ride them around the parking lot (something I still do since I don’t want to grow up). However, there was this one day during the summer where they had hired a manager’s boyfriend to DJ outside the store as an attempt to attract customers. What people might remember is that 1999 was the year one Mr. Lou Bega stormed through the charts with “Mambo No, 5.” And the DJ would play “Mambo No. 5” nonstop throughout the day. I did everything in my power to avoid going out to collect carts that day.

If there was one thing that was consistently awesome about having a summer job that I didn’t appreciate as much as I should have, it was going out for ice cream and swimming in the river after work with friends. Salad days.
